Livestock for Enhancing Livelihood in the Millennium 2000



Nepal Animal Science Association (NASA) was  established in 1983 under the Act of the formation of professional institutions.It is a non-governmental, non-political and non-profitable professional organization Nepal. This is the major organization committed for the livestock development in the country and this organization encompasses animal science and its allied professionals and scientists from the country and abroad, dedicated for the cause of the development of livestock sector and related enterprises in the country, this comprehends the following objectives:



·   To promote Animal Science /livestock based industries and marketing as major economic activities.

·   To promote research for the generation of appropriate technologies and make use of these in the field of animal production.

·   To organization appropriate forums for exchange of ideas, experiences and innovations among professionals, farmers and entrepreneurs through seminars, conventions and talk programs.

·   To assist farmers for improved farm productivity through sustainable farming with the best possible management of available resources.

·   To help the farmers to make the livestock keeping a prestigious profession through the use of new technologies.

·   To develop and promote livestock professionalism between the members, farmers and entrepreneurs of the association.

·   To exchange scientific information between national and international organizations devoted for the development of livestock sector.


SECTORAL Area Coverage

Members in the country and from abroad are the parental property of NASA that belong from different institutions, viz. Department of Livestock Service, (DLS), Nepal Agricultural Research Council(NARC) Dairy Development Corporation (DDC),Institute of Agriculture and Animal Sciences (IAAS),Agriculture Development Bank (ADB/N) and other banks, NGOs, INGOs, private and Dairy Cooperatives in the country and related local and foreign institutions. Despite its country-wide network, it has also established linkages with overseas countries.

1. Publications:

·   Nepalese Journal of Animal Science

·   Livestock Magazines

2. Fellowships: NASA currently provides the two scholarship schemes, viz. NASA Scholarship and Kesha Raj Keshari Mamorial Scholarship. The Scholarship scheme support the best two animal science under-graduates, at IAAS, annually.

Membership Opportunity

The interested individuals possessing the following requirements are eligible to obtain the membership opportunity of NASA. At the moment there is a provision for three categories of the membership for the national and international personnel engaged in livestock profession, eg. Life Member (L),Ordinary Member (O) ,and Associate Member (A) . The former two categories can be awarded to the Nepalese professionals, whilst foreign nationals are only eligible for the later category.


Members in NASA

At the moment, NASA has 280 members of different national and international institutions. It includes 100 Life Members, 160 Ordinary Members and 20 Associate Members.



NASA has different committees, eg. Executive Committee, Advisory Commitee, Regional Coordination cum Representative Committee and Publication Committee.



The executive committee comprises of 9 elected members. It is the principal dynamic working, organization and governing body of NASA.



The advisory Committee comprises of 11 members. The executive committee nominates its members.


Publication Committee

The publication committee for the Nepalese Journal of Animal Science is comprises of one Editor in Chief and three Members. Similarly for another NASA publication of \'Live-Stock in Nepali, there is a provision of separate Editorial Board with one Chief Editor and three Members.
